Veil

takes place in a country where only bicycles and cargo-hauling locomotives connect a series of cities distanced by alien infested forests, wetlands and mountain ranges.

Centuries ago, a series of asteroids with dormant passengers struck the planet’s surface. A disposal company under the alias INCO pioneered efforts to clean up the impact sites within affected cities.

Temporary basecamps were built in each city to monitor stationary extraterrestrial activity. INCO contracted a handful of individuals from each city to capture stray specimens that trickled from the asteroids into populated areas. These groups, or fleets, traveled by bicycle and were on call for removal services.

INCO’s basecamps became complex laboratories and fleets served their consortium as mascots.

A bicycle opens the door to many vocations.

Atlas is the birthplace of dozens of professional racing teams, along with the annual world cup which traffics the most tourism out of the neighboring cities.

Birno is home to Strela Veloshkola, a renowned cycling academy with cutthroat examinations run by instructors with nefarious practices.

The highways that connect these towns are desolate, dangerous and long. You’ll rarely see a lone rider - and if you do - it’s a Fetcher, a delivery person that retrieves stolen tech and flesh to sell to nearby towns.

Along the freeways live communes of unhoused families. The lawless lifestyle of Way-people is the main motivator behind a commuter choosing a caravan to arrive in the next city in one piece.

Velocity is home to Fleet 99:

INCO’s most publicized branch. Scouts appear in monthly editorials from Echappeé. Their participation in the annual Falling Leaves Festival has earned them their dare-devilish reputation.
